The best Kindle Immortal Illusions 4.75stars actuallyHas there ever been a character more sinfully delectable and skillfully written than Jack Madden, demi-god, rogue, extreme bad boy and oh so very sexy? This second installment to the Eternity Covenant is full of action, romance, sexy interludes, and intrigue as it begins shortly after the wrap-up in Immortal Protector. The Decadent (with a capital D) and hedonistic Jack Madden has found a way to perhaps reclaim his lost powers by picking up the mantel dropped by Gideon in book one and find the stolen artifacts and obtain his revenge on the Covenant. Jack’s plan entails working with half-elf Raine Spencer, whose afraid of her Elven side and has always done all she could to tamp it down but feels it is still holding her back from her dream of becoming a knight of the Covenant. Raine is a strong female character in her own right but does feel a bit overwhelmed when she actually meets Jack and gets the details of the assignment. The tsunami that is Jack coupled with the bigotry of head warden Kerr, his paladin Hugh who is also her uncle and the unexpected offer of assistance from Warden Ramon Salazar has Raine in a position that she cannot trust anyone or anything in this mission of finding the stolen artifacts. Raine is right to wonder about trust as everyone has their own agenda and not all are to her benefit. But as she has made a demand that will be fulfilled at the completion of the assignment she has to go where the assignment takes her as she tries to determine the truth of the matter much as she must also deal with her full blown attraction to Jack that not only increases every time she looks at him – it seems to be reciprocated. The chemistry between Jack & Raine is palpable and any page that doesn’t feature one or both of them is hardly worth the effort in comparison. The pettiness of the Gods and the machinations of the Covenant and the other “Alts” keep things interesting and moving along.A sour note to mention here is that this installment had a number of typos that detracted a bit from the read – but not enough to stop reading. .Another is that this great series doesn’t seem to have had enough readers to keep it going. It’s definitely a series that deserved an audience, I’d love to revisit this universe.
