Boxed set of three bestselling suspense stories by Lindsey Stiles
I don t read the so called cozy mysteries because they all seem to be too short on any real mystery and far too long on cute dialogue, dress details, and romantic subplots And I almost passed this book by because of what I thought it was, rather than what it is So here I am And here s a bit about the plot Squire Branek Pentreath, a somewhat well to do mine and land owner in Cornwall, trapped in a bitterly unhappy marriage to a woman who would put a 21st century fundamentalist to shame, loses sai [...]
A wonderfully intricate tale with numerous story threads that weave throughout the story Part romance, part murder mystery, the author kept me guessing right to the end There is a heartwarmingly strong and independent heroine who inadvertently becomes the suspect in a poisoning And the person least likely to support her, the husband of the murdered woman, also a suspect, becomes her ally Numerous suspects, a few red herrings, and a cast of intriguing characters fill the pages I have read numerou [...]
Truro, Cornwall 1781When Branek Pentreath s wife Sophia dies Dr Treen, who is in attendance, suspects the cause of death is arsenic.I sympathised with Branek, who entered into an arranged marriage with a reluctant, ultimately cold bride a mistress of the house whose severe demeanour hadn t endeared her to anyone Branek is puzzled by Sophie s murder The fa ade of the small Elizabethan manor loomed above Branek with its buff coloured limestone his sanctuary and prison Who would want to harm Sophie [...]
Talk about bang for your buck The Apothecary s Widow could have been a series of three, there are so many story lines involved Who killed Lady Pentreath and why Just when I thought I had it figured out, the author threw in another suspect that made me change my mind Of course, once Doctor Treen discovered Arsenic was used, the widow and local Apothecary, Jenna Rosedew became the prime suspect long as I wasn t following the thinking of those who were convinced that Branek Pentreath, the husband, [...]
This book was good.I am such a sucker with books titled The Daughter or The widow.I enjoyed the clash between the upscale noble hero and the working class heroine.I also enjoyed the fact that the hero was faithful and chaste during his unhappy marriage. The relationship had a nice build up to it.There was a mystery as well but it was somewhat light weight.Read it for free from my KU subsription
Who killed Lady Pentreath The unhappy husband, or the apothecary who prepared the tinctures A woman about to be evicted from the building owned by the Pentreaths An exciting murder mystery with authentic historical details, infused with romantic elements set in Cornwall during the American Revolution.
More like 3.5 stars It was a good book, but I just hate when I figure out who dunnit before the characters do It really ruins book just waiting for the characters to realize what has become obvious With that said, most of the book was quite good with many plausible suspects.

Three stars because I figured it outbut was still entertaining If you want need a read to pass this time, this is a good one.
It has a good story line I liked the story but it was too descriptive for me.
