  1. I ve been waiting for this book before I even knew I was waiting for this book I was turned onto Hische s work in my fundamental college design classes and have since been stalking her website for inspiration during my own lettering projects For what it s worth, I do consider Hische to be the greatest modern vector letterer there is, so I suppose this review is somewhat biased. What I respect about Hische is that she s willing to share her secrets If you ve taken her Skillshare classes, there s a [...]

  2. 4,5 5 Let me start off by telling you that the design for this book is on point I really love the use of spot UV and and the metallic graphite colour on the cover The graphite colour is also used throughout the book, in all of Jessica s sketches in the book and it feels like you re really looking at pencil sketches The design of the book is very consistent and the lay out makes it very easy to read and to process all the information without feeling overwhelmed As for the actual writing and infor [...]

  3. I m a fan of Jessica Hische s work but was hesitant to get this because the pricetag was a bit of a commitment for me To say that it s worth the money is an understatement This book is so beautiful I got overwhelmed and emotional every time I turned the page, and when I got to the part where she shows the bezier handles in her lettering I almost burst into tears I also kept running my fingers down the pages just to feel the paper, then spending a full minute just admiring the colors and layouts [...]

  4. This is a great blend between Jessica s life as she becomes a letterer and some basic lettering process She s a lovely writer with a personal and intimate voice that makes you fall in love with her It left me with the feeling that I want to read of what she has to share Here and there you can read glimpse of subject which I would love to read about For instance she mention how sign painter draws letters thinking about how to use their brush, but doesn t go further You can sense that her unders [...]

  5. A wonderfully useful insight into the process of a working freelance artist Jessica Hische has a good eye, a fine attention to detail, and a seriously honed sense of design And she explains it all very well, too It s no wonder she s a sought after resource for so many people and companies I got a few good tips about working with vector art from the book, too.

  6. Un libro molto interessante che permette di entrare nel mondo di un grafico e rubarne qualche trucco Un oggetto bellissimo da esporre in libreria per la grafica super curata e i colori vintage Un libro per appassionati, professionisti e curiosi

  7. Inspiring just to flip through and to read She has created many beautiful works of art I enjoyed being able to read and to see steps in her process to creating these works.

  8. It is impossible not to love this book, Jessica Hische is a rockstar in the Lettering world and of the few designers that have a different spark to their personality, and she shows that in her interviews and Skillshare course.I liked how the book kept the same humorous and human sense that define Hische Her work is amazing and all the tips and tricks contained in this book are a total game changer.Good book, I will definitely recommend this title to some of my friends and I ll hit that pen tool [...]

  9. I read this book in PUB format e book , found alot of use full information about lettering, but this book is not for beginner.

  10. Jessica Hische is one of my favorite designers I went into this book expecting to get an inside look at her design process with lots of pretty pictures, and that s what I got, but it far exceeded my expectations She goes beyond showing a few sketches and notes and provides an in depth look at and tips for producing the type of work she does, using one of her pieces as an example from start to finish There was way detail and openness about her lettering process than I expected She also openly de [...]

  11. Wow, I am not sure where to begin with this book First off, it was long awaited When I found out she was writing this book I just knew I had to have it I ve been following Jessica Hische since my freshman days of college and to this point in time I am still amazed at what she outputs This book does a great job at showing the steps and process Hische goes through to create a piece of work, if anything it s very inspiring For the most part, I personally didn t learn anything new but it was still f [...]

  12. To be honest, I bought this book on a whim without really expecting much To my surprise it was actually really information and interesting to read Jessica Hische s tone was also very down to earth and friendly enough to keep you interested enough to read through the whole book For me it only took two days, not because it was really short but because I wanted to finish the book to see her process as well as her designs.I think this book is great and very inspirational for young designers out the [...]

  13. I have mixed feelings about this book I picked it up based on the premise that it showed the author s process and sketches when working on a project, in contrast to most books about design only show the final image And while she does offer some insights into each project, most of the sketchbook images are the final draft, ready to be scanned and used in Illustrator I would have like to see rough thumbnails, false starts, and abandoned routes on the way to the final image Including of these wou [...]

  14. This was excellent Super informative, and jam packed with helpful tips The subtitle is See Inside a Lettering Artist s Sketchbook and Process from Pencil to Vector and while I expected the lettering sketches bit to be covered thoroughly, I didn t expect all the details regarding her process or the technical tips for vectorizing sketches Oh, and this is a reeeeally pretty book It s not just the featured work that s attractive, it s the actual layout and color choices I especially love the silver [...]

  15. 16. Not only is Jessica Hische one of my favorites, her book is also awesome.I ve been visiting her website for years and I ve taken her skillshare courses so there wasn t a ton of new information for me, however, it doesn t make a bind up of all of her knowledge any less valuable It s nice to be able to follow her process from start to finish, including multiple sketches leading up to a finished product produced by the client.Loved it, love her I m glad to have a physical copy to refer back to in t [...]

  17. Great approach to the technical aspects of lettering in the first quarter of the book The case studies were interesting as well but took up most of the book The only room for improvements I can mention is that I would have loved to see her addressing her influences, and talking about lettering styles Incredible visuals and I would recommend the book to any aspiring letterer or even type designer.

  18. Phenomenal Everyone knows that anything by Jessica Hische is going to be top quality, but this is the first time I ve held the physical manifestation of her work in my hands Not only is it full of genuinely helpful advice, but she s very free with her process including pretty in depth sketches It s also fucking gorgeous From the paper she chose, to the inks, the type, the composition of her layouts, and her always stunning lettering just goes on, people.U NEED DIS.

  19. Loved it I first heard of Jessica on skillshare I really like her lettering style and several people I have met recommended this book I was hesitant to buy it only because I have so many lettering books and when I first saw this one it wasn t available on kindle I am so glad I waited I was able to get the kindle version and now I have another great resource at my fingertips, that isn t taking up precious space in my office.

  20. Let me start with saying this book is a must read for designers It s always fun to learn about the process of one of your favourite artists, and it s not often they give such a thorough look at their work as Jessica does in this book Nerdy b zier curve stuff included Next to that the book is filled with Jessica s illustrations, on which she shares sketches, insights and funny remarks Last but not least, the design is of course very beautiful Recommended

  21. This book is amazing I love that Jessica shared so much of her process As an artist, I m always curious about how others work I will be incorporating some things from this book into my own process I m in awe of Jessica s work, she s beyond talented

  22. Just paged through this book at a Blick art materials store Jessica s work is amazing and the descriptions of her technique are better than most of the reference materials I ve seen on the subject Would love to have a copy on my shelf for reference.

  23. I really really like Hische s portfolio of work This is an inspiring look at how to get started with vector lettering, with practical tips It s not all a biography or all a body of work, but pieces of those are included Really like it I might buy this one eventually.

  24. I thought this book would just have examples of Jessica s designs but it was so much A wealth of information and tips along the way, giving insight into many of her projects making this book a very good reference book to getting into design and lettering

  25. Not just a normal monograph, this goes into Jessica s process and tips and tricks for creating lettering with vectors and pencil Great to see someone s process and tips and tricks dissected so in depth

  26. I m always interested in understanding not just an artist s line of thinking, but all of their day to day tools and processes as well This book delivers on all of the above

  27. It s less of a how to and of a visual journey through one artists process This artist has really built quite a portfolio and a recognized a lot of her work

  28. LOVE this book, extremely inspiring and a really in depth look at the process of one of my favourite designers.
