  1. Holy crap, did you know that most people on think that Johnny the Homicidal Maniac is a better book than this one A cooler book, sure, I ll grant you that but a better one That s impossible, nerds Jhonen Vasquez wrote JTHM to get good enough to write Squee This book is gold.

  2. Squee was a mini series offshoot of Vasquez s Johnny the Homicidal Maniac strip, in which Squee was originally Johnny s very young and ever so frightened neighbor These short strips further explore Squee s general state of good ol fashioned little kid peeing his pants terror Squee s all encompassing phobia is not unwarranted, of course he is, after all, the intended victim of multiple bumbling space aliens with anal probes and a dust mite the size of a St Bernard, among other things. It s all rat [...]

  3. Jhonen has a natural ability to make me laugh like a maniac.I hope never to read this in a hospital or outside a psychiatrist s office. So I have one advice, read it in safe places where you know there is no one with enough authority to put you in an asylum.

  4. Squee is a lovable little boy, except his parents don t really like him all that much He gets abducted by aliens and they don t even notice or care Squee meets some weird people, like Johnny the Homicidal Maniac and the son of Satan Poor Squee rarely gets to meet nice normal people He has nightmares and there are monsters in his room But enough about Squee Inside this book you ll also find Filler Bunny, Happy Noodle Boy, Wobbly Headed Bob and a whole lot of Meanwhiles So what are you waiting for [...]

  5. This is a graphic novel compilation of Vasquez s comic Squee Squee was an offshoot of the comic Johnny the Homicidal Maniac JtHM JtHM is about a maladjusted young man in his late teens early 20s who goes around killing people Squee is about Johnny s young neighbor, a little boy who is perpetually terrified of everything around him While reading these comics, one gets the impression that both Johnny or Nny for short and Squee represent different aspects of Jhonen s self image Nny is the frustrate [...]

  6. 2aughlikecrazy.wordpress 2This one begins with Squee awkwardly praying on his father s behalf Wanting only that he gets whatever he wishes and offers God all his money in payment, or thanks whichever is cuter Later that night Shmee goes missing, and when Squee goes to investigate his whereabouts he finds him outside his bedroom where he is met by some scary looking aliens. They don t wish him harm, but once the aliens find out the child s parent s may have been damaged whilst trying to restrain t [...]

  7. SQUEE is a graphic novel I keep coming back to again over the years I swear I love everything I ve ever laid eyes on by Jhonen Vasquez Have you ever seen and loved that cartoon Invader ZIM This is your man then this is one of his comics This black and white collection of SQUEE comics is twisted and at moments sad but yet manages to be light and funny Ask me how he does it I do not know SQUEE is a sweet scared little kid who experiences some crazy messed up shit But it s so awesome to tag along f [...]

  8. Irreverent, demented, wicked, hilarious I m guessing Jhonen Vasquez and his work get described with these adjectives often I m offering them along with no small amount of admiration The dark things that already nestle in my own mind had very good company while reading this In fact, I think they multiplied.

  9. I have to admit that Squee is not nearly as good as Johnny the Homicidal maniac, but this is never the less an edition worth having for all Vasquez s fans, especially for it s brilliant inclusion of all Meanwhiles, Wobbly headed Bob stories, and side comics spawned from Jhonen s mostly brilliant sometimes just gooey mind.

  10. I definitely enjoyed this book than JTHM the dark humor is fantastic I can t say that I would reread it in its entirety but there a few strips that I would gladly revisit.

  11. Stuff I Read Squee Being a huge fan of Invader Zim and what I ve read of JTHM, I picked up Squee knowing what I was getting into And the actual Squee stories are a gem, and I d say constitute the best of Vasquez s work Perhaps that is just because it aligns to what I truly enjoy, and that is a character that is at the same time good and apathetic Not good and proactive, or evil in any way, Squee is a good person, who tries to do good where he can He is cheerful and tries, and yet the world thro [...]

  12. Much like my review of Jhonen Vasquez s Director s Cut edition of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, I would have given this book 5 out of 5 stars but I took a star off because little disappointments like the lack of the original covers of the individual issues, collecting the comic shorts like Wobbly Headed Bob and Meanwhiles in their own sections at the end of the book instead of in their original places in the initial comics But other than that, Squee is a great series Unlike Johnny s rather ridicu [...]

  13. Basically a catch all of the stuff that was in the original JTHM books but didn t get put into that awesome trade SQUEE, you ll remember is the doe eyed next door neighbor of Johnny His parents really wish there was a 105 month abortion, and they pretty much let him know it constantly Everyone at school hates him, teachers included, except for his best friend whether he likes it or not Pepito, who also happens to be the son of the Devil Hi jinx abound, including the dooky blood that had me rolli [...]

  14. Vasquez is the guy who brought us one of my favorite TV shows, Invader Zim This is a compendium of some of his earlier work and you can see the birth of many of his later characters You can also see a lot of fumbling around as he tries to find his stride So this is of an intellectual pursuit, with a lot of the juvenile posturing and narcissistic self loathing you see in self actualizing works of young artists But you also find truly entertaining jewels The book starts with Squee, a kid with pro [...]

  15. As cute as it is dark, SQUEE follows the adventures of a side character in Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, a fearful little boy with neglectful and verbally abusive parents, plagued by paranoid illusions I think it captures well the feeling of being a small, frightened child in a big scary world, and I can relate to it on some level thinking back to my own childhood A bit tamer than Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, I found it closer in tone to Vasquez s animated series Invader Zim, perhaps the middle g [...]

  16. Although I love JtHM I absolutely adore Squee In this series, although somehow less coherent than in Johnny, Vasquez relates the escapades of the timid, shy boy with an absolutely horrifying life and his teddy bear Shmee who I swear is evil There s Aliens, giant Dust mites, abusive parents, quite a few Meanwhile shorts, Pepito the Devil s son and his surprising mother a cameo by Nny and of course the titular character Squee Absorbing all the horrifying events in his life which would turn most pe [...]

  17. While I love Squee as much as the next girl, I just couldn t get behind this compilation of all things left out of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Fillerbunny wasn t even remotely entertaining, the autobiographical comics had some entertainment value, but they didn t really grab me About the only non Squee one I really enjoyed was the wannabe vampire finding out that it s not all it s cracked up to be, but that even rubbed me the wrong way given the nature and message JTHM.

  18. 2.75 stars Squee is a little kid, who lived next door to Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Poor little Squee is scared of everything He has a cute little teddy bear, Schmee Squee was never wanted by his parents and they tell him so I like Squee But, I was disappointed to discover that only half the book was about Squee Then, there just seemed to be random comics to fill up the rest of the book Some were o.k Others I just didn t like I liked it better than JTHM, so it gets and extra star, but still onl [...]

  19. Much like JTHM, this comic is a bit hit and miss I still love the art and Squee s story is fantastic He s such a lovable chap I especially enjoyed the one where he s invited to dinner at the Devil s house It s both morbid and oddly charming. However, half the trade is made up of filler strips and these are variable Some the real life adventures of Jhonen Vasquez and some of the Meanwhiles really made me laugh Others Happy Noodle Boy and Wobbly headed Bob I only skim read One even has given me a h [...]

  20. The weirdly cute and unfortunate neighbor of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac Squee gets his own book In this volume, he is visited by aliens, is befriended by the devil s son and forced to accept dinner invitations, is pursued by monsters, and fears becoming a zombie It s not quite as disgusting disturbing as JTHM, but it s certainly as weird, and most off the wall slightly not right comics readers will enjoy the art style, the delivery, and the actual dialogue of the characters You also get strange [...]

  21. Oh Squee Never have I laughed so much at a small child being terrorized Squee somehow makes you feel incredible pity while also wanting things to happen to him I didn t say this in my reviews of Lenore, I feel Sick, etc But really Squee and that group of comics is the type that could easily offend people Really easily You really need to have a certain type of humor to enjoy these I do, I find these types of comics compelling and hilarious But I understand how they may not be for everyone.

  22. Squee is Jhonenen Vasquez s excuse to explore some of his absurd, nightmarish scenarios vicariously destroying every piece of a child s innocence My only point of criticism is that he lacked an overarching plot for the kid and by the end of the book, he had left Squee all together and experimented with a variety of other characters They were enjoyable in that dark and masochistic sort of way , but I missed the cohesive feel of JTHM and honestly, I was expecting to see of Johnny C.

  23. Squee s book is a mirror to Nny s If you haven t read Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, please take this as a gentle reminder to get your butt in gear and go read it Squee is bound and determined to be light hearted and happy in spite of monsters, ickies, and a psycho teddy bear that threaten and disprove his take on the world It still has some of Vasquez s usual angry social commentary, but the main character here is a very sweet nearly androgynous child who, without fail, will insist to you that th [...]

  24. What could be cute and cuddly than Squee When our little Squee is sad, I m sad upsidedown smiley I wanna squee squee squeeze him and can t get over those big sad eyes.Read about Squee s adventures when you wanna get in a really good mood

  25. This comic made me lol lots The characters and situations were hilarious I loved the reoccurring aliens Squee was adorable and I could tell the author had a fun time with it.Now I really hate self conscious and self criticizing comics Those notes from the author throughout really irked me, but I was able to enjoy the comic despite it I read the four original issues, not this combined trade copy.

  26. .I m just Don t know What happened. But I thinkI liked it It is memorable That is for certain And I think I would read it again. It s like a train wreck and rubber necking. You can t look awayAnd when you do you knowYou ve got to be missing something. And you re not sureIf you should beOr not or ifThere s something vital in the twistsOf raggedWhat just happened
