  1. This is one of the hardest books to rate I thought long and hard whether to give this book 3 or 4 stars I also could not take an easy path and give this book 3.5 stars on this later.Perrin s subplot takes up the first quarter of the book Perrin spends his time brooding and being miserable To be fair, he comes to his senses from time to time when he does he makes pointless talk He also snaps at the people who really try to help him It is really sad to see a pathetic human being which Faile made [...]

  2. Winter s Heart gets three stars since it s the weakest Wheel of Time book I ve read so far, alongside The Path of Daggers However, that doesn t mean it really deserves three stars This put me in a difficult situation, because this rating is in comparison with the other WoT books On the other hand, it is quite a lot better than several books I ve rated four stars. The problem with this one is one you probably know about The plot development is gone Still, I absodamnlutely love this world, this wri [...]

  3. 5 A buddy read with the Fantasy Addicts at BBB We are going to prevail over the Dark Lord I am out of words It feels like I have said everything, used up all my vocabulary of superlatives and have became redundant with my praises of the genius of Robert Jordan and this series This is the 9th book and I found it to be just as compelling as all the ones before it I read some reviews saying it was slow and nothing really happened until the last several chapters I very respectfully disagree Although [...]

  4. The September Buddy r Read with all my buddy reading fantasy addicts at Buddies Books BaublesAs my good friend Choko says This is a book of thousands small details at might be a little off I think this is a book of A MILLION SMALL DETAILS.Look totally props to Jordan for creating such and interesting and diverse world The number of lands, cultures, diversity, magic and just small things that make each character different are really staggering I have no idea how the man kept track of it all I ass [...]

  5. This was another Wheel of Time instalment that passed with very little advancement in the majority of the ongoing story arcs Despite that I still thoroughly enjoyed this 9th book in the series I think I m just so sucked into the story by this point that I m happy and entertained by the happenings even when the characters are doing little than chit chatting with each other Spoilers ahoy So what did actually happen for our favourite characters I hear you ask Rand He actually had a productive book [...]

  6. The official BBB read of Book IX of the epic WoT series just got Mission Accomplished like a BOSS Ok, ok It was a reread for me, but still This series aint for for the fainthearted in the page count department Also, with close to a 1000 pages a book there is a lot of meandering and only a little sprinting I have paperbacks Actual count is 11916 pages Or 4,410,036 words And the characters You REALLY have to keep track Piece of cake you say Hmmm This book alone mentions 602 character names SIX HUN [...]

  7. 4.5 s for this book and that s mostly due to the ending of it which is rather epic in proportion I really enjoyed listening to this instalment of WoT and I felt that there were a few things we really gained knowledge of in this volume As I have mentioned in previous reviews this series has recently made the transition form a cast of teens into a cast of adults and this is clear from the vast array of choices made by some of our major players and the way that their previous experiences are now in [...]

  8. Buddy read with the Dragon Sworn over at BBBNine books in and this series is still going strong There are just no words to describe this experience so I ll just say this if you like high fantasy you MUST read The Wheel of Time.

  9. This book was easily a one star until the last chapter, where there was enough action to make me look forward to the next, but unfortunately 90% of this book was a struggle I had to force myself to get through several of the chapters namely those involving Elayne Nynaeve Unfortunately those 30 pages of action was not enough for me to raise my rating. The following sums up my major issues with this book and contains some spoilers You have been warned view spoiler The first sister ceremonyElayne an [...]

  10. Executive Summary Much like some of the other middle books of this series, I enjoyed it on my reread than I did the first time That said, it s still one of the weaker books of the series.Audiobook Another fantastic job by Kate Reading and Micheal Kramer I suspect part of the reason why I enjoyed this the second time was that I was listening to it instead of reading it, and they make it so much better.Full ReviewAfter nearly 1.5 books, Mat returns There is also a bunch of boring stuff with Elay [...]

  11. How many ways can I find to say the same things about this series A series whose problems I identified as early as book three, and which has continued to embrace those problems rather than fix them Presumably because Jordan didn t see them as problems but rather as features Which is one of the problems It s a whole problematical circle of problems, and ouroboroses eating their tails and such a fitting image since the Wheel of Time is basically an ouroboros sailing some sort of invisible ship.Le [...]

  12. I m Rand Al Thor and I m in love with three different women In a good story, I would have to make a hard choice, lose two women I loved and possibly gain one devoted lover wife confidant In a move straight out of Love Hina, I refuse to make a decision and am rewarded by not one, but all three beautiful yet exotically different women desperate to bear my children. The only instance I can think of where than one woman is nice for any length of time to a man in the entire WoT series occurs in this [...]

  13. Recently when I write reviews, I have been using bolded quotes I am quite fond of bolding quotes because i love illustrating the writing of the author However, in this specific review, I will not do so Why Because most of the words and writing in this book isbullshitCommence Rant Wow, I cannot believe I am doing this Even though I hated the Dragon Reborn to a certain degree, I actually look back on it a slight bit fondly because it was notterrible In fact, I did say as such, it was just ok Howev [...]

  15. Winter s Heart is the 9th book in The Wheel of Time I really enjoyed this As before, some storylines are left hanging and previously hanging storylines are picked back up, but I enjoyed all the storylines we were given I especially enjoyed the end There s usually some sort of major climatic battle near the end of each book that I find moderately interesting, but I liked the end of this book much better than the previous ones So, based on all that, I decided to finally stop being stingy and give [...]

  16. Worried that the series is slowing down to a crawl after the first two thirds of The Path of Daggers and wondering if Winter s Heart is worth it Let me start with a resounding YES.Like most people I too was a bit sceptical after The Path of Daggers since frankly until the last third of the book not very much happens and we re given the two most annoying POVs quite a lot of the time Faile and Nynaeve Fortunately Winter s Heart completely breaks away from that and I didn t feel like there was a si [...]

  17. You can never know everything, and part of what you know is always wrong Perhaps even the most important part A portion of wisdom lies in knowing that A portion of courage lies in going on anyway

  18. The Wheel of Time is a long and epic story Long and epic narratives, for whatever reason perhaps its the way in which they hint at reality tend to be my personal favourite types of tales However, as with book 8, Winter s Heart meanders on slowly and I maintain my stance that the content of books 8,9 and 10 could have been better delivered as one novel That said this book interests me enough to like it for the most part. The novel has some very apparent negatives such as the again plodding pace an [...]

  19. Well, that wasense Seriously, the last 60 pages of the book are breathless, world class fantasy The rest iswell to be frank, the rest is not actually that bad The biggest sin committed by this book is that Mat s storyline is downright dull until its very last pages C mon guys, Mat is supposed to be the fun one Other than that though, the story moves along pretty well We get lots of Rand, and his story continues to be the most compelling by far Elayne s political wrangling is entertaining enough, [...]

  20. Book 9 in my long slow read of this epic series Slow because I only listen to the audio when I am walking my dog Long because these are very long books This one finished on a tremendous 5 star worthy high with Rand at last achieving something really worthwhile in a very exciting way However the book loses a full star for the awfulness of the tedious section about Perrin I get that he really loves Faile and he is going to pieces without her, but non stop whining for however many pages it was spar [...]

  21. The last few books in Wheel of time series have been a test of patience for me, I have managed to endure these books as I am a part of below groups.Buddies Books and BaublesThe Not a Book Club ClubI have read the last two books sleeping half the time, and have managed to stay in touch with the books due to some awesome chapterwise summaries in both these groups. This book ends with a bang but most things which I remember from this book are1.Low neck lines2.Stripping the bottoms3.Folding arms unde [...]

  22. I try to resist looking at the relationship between books and movies in absolute terms. For example, I think the film can be better than the book Fight Club Some adaptations seem to stand on their own Lord of the Rings And I m pleased to read books that don t seem to be easily converted to film William Gibson and Neal Stephenson come to mind.To be honest, I doubt that The Wheel of Time will be converted for film The intrigues and internal conflicts that distinguish the early novels strike me as f [...]

  23. I m really starting to run out of things to say about the Wheel of Time series To be honest there are so many things about these books that irritate me that it s a miracle I m still reading them but here I am nine books in and not only still reading but also thoroughly enjoying myself in spite of the issues I have I think I ve just invested so much time and effort into reading this massive series that I m determined to stick it out to the bitter end and I just have to know how things turn out fo [...]

  24. Contains spoilers for previous books Possible mild spoilers for this one as well.As is becoming a pattern in this series, Winter s Heart advances two major plot points Rand, Mat while the others move into the background and stall for a while Perrin, Elayne or are completely absent Egwene this time There is action in this book than the last, though, and it s not too full of brooding and self doubt, making it a significant improvement on the last book Mat is back, trying to escape Ebou Dar with t [...]

  25. The Wheel of Time series represents, for me, the perfect example of a guilty pleasure in the world of fantasy. This series is not actually written very well Robert Jordan was not a very good wordsmith, and he really only knew how to say and describe things one way His characters are generally unbelievable, and have ridiculous dialogue The plot is tremendously predictable, and is heavily influenced close to the point of being unoriginal by the fantasy works that came before The whole story is much [...]

  26. OCD compels me to write yet another review in a book of the only multilogy that I can claim to have finished So here we are.Like books 7 and 8, this is another space filler, with nothing interesting happening Mat meets Tuon, and that s about it More or less The fact I don t remember much is remarkable by itself Perrin fights some, and Rand fights some, and such like Awesome.Anyhow, here s what you all came for. When I read Winter s Heart,Compelling action failed to start,A girl named Tuon,Was Mat [...]

  27. This review can also be found on my blog A Match Made in HeavenThis book was very eventful Several major events that I knew were coming finally happened in this book And I was so happy to see Mat again He was not in the last book at all, and it took half of this book before he showed up But once he did, a lot happened The story in Ebou Dar ended up being my favourite, from anyone s POV I was happy to finally meet Tuon and she was not what I expected She is a strong woman, like all the others in [...]
