Bestseller Kindle And Never Let Her Go: Thomas Capano: The Deadly Seducer The strap line on the English edition of this book carries the words 'The World's No. 1 True Crime Writer' and a read of this mammoth volume shows the reason why Ann Rule has that billing. As an investigative piece of true crime writing it is exhaustive and covers every aspect of a horrifying and very sad case. Thomas Capano is the protagonist and he is known as 'The Deadly Seducer' for good reason; he was a serial womaniser and control freak. As an attorney he had a good understanding of the law that he tried to put to good use when his trial came along but thanks to the sterling work of the prosecutors, he failed and was sentenced to death by lethal injection.Supposedly happily married and with four children, all girls, he seduced a variety of women, with one of whom he had a long term relationship that was to last over 17 years; they were so close that he promised to marry her once his eventual, and not unexpected, divorce became final. While that affair was ongoing he had affairs with a variety of other women, with one lady becoming particularly close. This was Anne Marie Fahey, a name that the long-term girlfriend was not to encounter until the dastardly deed had been done. The relationship with Anne Marie had its ups and downs, not surprisingly, and it ended with Capano killing her and then disposing of her body in the ocean. Eventually his assistant, one of his brothers, spilled the beans and the chase to arrest him was on.In a thrilling but understandably very sad read Ann Rule captures the feelings of the people involved superbly and the court case is indeed dramatic. It certainly brought out a chilling insight into the evil that sometimes hides behind the most charming of facades for Capano was supposedly a well respected member of the community.

  2. I have to say that this ended up being my favorite true crime book by Ann Rule I think the main reason is that this one stayed really focused on not only the the accused, but also the victim and other women in this man s orbit Usually Rule s books start to read as formulaic with her going into the background of every cop, prosecutor, and judge and you start go get bored Or at least I do But I think that Rule stayed very focused on the victim Anne Marie Fahey And Never Let Her Go goes into the ba [...]

  3. So many people in the true crime world are always saying she was the best but definitely not agreeing with them on this book She is so biased it gets annoying She is constantly making up excuses for some as if her readers do not have a mind of their own we are being force fed. This is one older standalone book of her I own but never have read and I can t see when she wrote this but having read so many excellent true crime books now, my eyes have opened to the flaws of her books So annoying The fi [...]

  4. One of the things that reading Man Apes or Ape Men The Story of Discoveries in Africa reminded me of is how important taxonomy is The way human beings are wired means that 1 it s hard for us to talk about things we don t have names for and 2 we understand the world by categorization and comparison, so being able to put like things together in groups is an incredibly powerful conceptual tool It s true in biology and geology and meteorology it s true in literary studies, where if there s a theory [...]

  5. When a rich, politically well connected, manipulative, sociopath met, lured, and seduced 30 year old Anne Marie Fahey, her life and those of others dramatically changed.Impressionable and vulnerable, Anne Marie knew he was married and the father of four, but she did not know that he also had concurrent numerous serious relationships, including a 20 year old affair with another woman he claimed to love.Sadly, her life ended when Thomas Capano could no longer control every action, including the fa [...]

  6. Last half reads quicklyHaving read several of Rule s books, I can say this one is my least favorite as the first half drags with character exposition The second ha f moves briskly and compellingly.

  7. I had only read one previous Ann Rule true crime book and that was The StrangerBeside Me This book was equal to that first one Thomas Copano, now deceased, was a powerful man in Delaware politics and he had a dark side Unfortunately, a sweet youngwoman got in his way and he killed her After I finished the book I felt like I knew thiswoman, Anne Marie Fahey, and her family and friends If you enjoy true crime you will likethis book The city of Wilmington Delaware comes off as a great place to visi [...]

  8. while i ve never read a true crime book before, i don t think i like this type of book there was way too much detail and it took forever to actually get into the story line the first part of the book describe the characters ancestors i don t see a point in reading about a person s grandparents, it didn t matter in the plot as much as i wanted to put this book down, i didn t because i wanted to see what happened in the end.

  9. DescriptionOn June 27, 1996, thirty year old Anne Marie Fahey, who was the scheduling secretary for the governor of Delaware, had dinner with a man she had been having a secret affair with for than two years Tommy Capano, forty seven, was perhaps the most politically powerful man in Wilmington Son of a wealthy contractor, former state prosecutor, partner in a prestigious law firm, advisor to governors and mayors, Tom Capano had a soft spoken and considerate manner that endeared him to many Alth [...]

  10. Young, beautiful, and on her way up in the world, Anne Marie Fahey was looking forward to a life of love, success, and giving her children the stability she always craved as a child.Tom Capano was a moderately successful lawyer from a rich family He had a beautiful wife, living daughters, and a mistress who would do anything for him.Yet he HAD to have Anne Marie. For three years, he and Anne had a turbulent, on and off again affair He tried to dominate every aspect of her life, and she allowed hi [...]

  11. And Never Let Her Go tells the real life story of a manipulative, controlling seducer wealthy lawyer Thomas Capano and his plot and the subsequent carrying out of said plot to murder one of his many mistresses scheduling secretary Anne Marie Fahey , whom he sought to control and could not The amount of detail that Ms Rule crams into this novel s 400 pages is impressive, at once a gift and a curse You re never left wanting when it comes to the details of the ensuing investigation no stone is left [...]

  12. its the first time I have read a true crime story It was really addictive because the lives of the people described were all real Its like peering into someone s window and observing all that is going on inside, but not having to feel ashamed about it The author had a biased view of the victim, she the victim kinda brought it upon herself to be in a position of danger But friendships and relationships can be complicated like that, sometimes people tend to ignore their gut feelings and intuitions [...]

  13. Amazing read The book was pretty lengthy but it was filled with a lot of interesting facts on the case Rule really did extensive research on this case and the circumstances surrounding it I had seen a Dateline special on the Tom Capano case but this book really topped that It was very sad that Ann Marie s body was never found I can t even begin to imagine what her family must have gone through to not be able to give her a final goodbye and to know what she is somewhere in the ocean Tom was a sel [...]

  14. This is the best book by Ann Rule that I ve read.Well written and well researched It had me hooked from start to finish.I had to Google to find out what happened to Tom Capano At first I was disappointed to learn that he had died in prison I felt he deserved to live a long and unhappy life behind bars But my second thought was that he didn t deserved to live A cold, ruthless, conniving, manipulative thoroughly evil man, he would no doubt have caused pain and suffering had he lived.A heart break [...]

  15. Having read some exceptional true crime books over the past year has set my bar for the genre pretty high Books like Death in Little Egypt Fatal Vision provided an excellent insight into the psyche and crimes of virtual sociopaths while also illuminating the people around them A truly excellent true crime work must explore not only the villain but the society around him or her while also glancing unblinkingly into the crime, the criminal and the victim Having remembered the Anne Marie Fahey murd [...]

  16. Ann Rule certainly knows how to dissect a murder She goes deep into the life of the victim as well as the murderer himself But something is missing The way Anne Marie died her last moments on earth will forever remain unknown And the killers psyche is likewise unknowable Still, I often wondered about this crime since reading about it in the newspaper years ago, and Ann Rule answered most of my questions Rule is fixated on the crime beat, and she is good at her trade I wonder if she has nightmare [...]

  17. By the time I finished reading this book, I felt as if I knew the people in this true story It was fascinating to get inside the mind of Tom Capano, who was very obviously a narcissist The girl he wooed ,stalked, and murdered that he put under his spell was the girl next door One of those books you can t put down.

  18. As usual Ann Rule s research into true crime is captivating and flawless You all read in the news about the death of Anne Marie Fahey, the trusted secretary to Delaware s Governor, we even blamed him for it If you want the truth ask Rule.

  19. I am a huge fan of Anne Rule, but this was simply not her best work While the second half of the book is superb to the point, suspenseful, with key points of the crime and resulting trial revealed with her characteristic intimate style the first half of the book is overflowing with unnecessary, boring, gossipy details, and the onslaught of unabashedly biased justifications for every single action of the victim and Tom Capano s mistress was insulting and annoying Every less than angelic action of [...]

  20. I read somewhere that this was arguably Ann Rule s best book I don t think anything compares to her Bundy book, so I decided to try it on audio About half way through the book I realized I was listening to the abridged version, so I thought maybe I should read it And then I saw that the print copy was over 600 pages so I decided abridged audio would be just fine Honestly, this was about one guy who killed one woman, I just cannot imagine what she could have gone on 600 pages about It was mildly [...]

  21. This is yet another true crime story by the best true crime author in the business This one is about the disappearance of Anne Marie Fahey, a well loved and popular woman in Delaware who had a secret relationship with a prominent attorney, Thomas Capano My one complaint with this book is that she spends an inordinate amount of time setting up the crime, and developing all of the characters that by the time you get to the actual crime, one is starting to consider walking away from it After readin [...]

  22. I m really starting to love these True Crime books Although it s funny because every time I read one I m like Hmm I think I ve seen this episode on Law and Order LOL Gee I wonder where Law and Order got their ideas from scary to know that those episodes may have been loosely based on true shit This world is crazy, and call me crazy, but I love it It sucks for the families, trust me, I know, I ve been there But how BORING would life be without these Psychopaths Or maybe I m just as psycho for say [...]

  23. Excellent book by Ann Rule I couldn t put this book down I loved how Ann Rule delved deep into the backgrounds of the main characters This is one of those books that shows you a person can seem like a wonderful person but he really isn t, and he has this victim mentality that makes people want to love him and in reality he is just out to be worshiped and his anger has no boundaries because he has no morals and serves only himself Obviously someone dies in this book, and it is a tragedy that she [...]

  24. My first Ann Rule was a success I m still not sure that a history of each family going back 3 generations was really necessary but other than that and being annoyed that the spelling of Anne Marie s name kept going back and forth between Anne and Ann, I enjoyed this volume.

  25. Loved it It was a little long but True Crime might be a new go to genre for me, it s like watching forensic files I ve already purchased another book by this author I loved that it was so local to me, I knew all of the places they mentioned

  26. Another Ann Rule classicBeautifully written I miss Ann Rule No one in True Crime today comes even close to her style and ability to weave a story in a way that I m always fully engaged.

  27. This book shows how the human kind can be manipulative and horrible I wasn t a fan of the first 15% of the book but after the first part was over it was very good Ann Rule really knows how to tell a story

  28. A solid 100 pages could have been cut This got repetitive after a while and it s not as inherently interesting a story as If You Really Loved Me for instance.
