Bestseller Kindle Death Bringer OKAY. I CAN'T STAND IT. I LOVE THIS SERIES A CATASTROPHIC AMOUNT. I started thinking, "Yes, I'll be mild fan of this." But pfft, I think I've crossed over to let-me-be-an-obsessive-fan-who-has-a-million-ships-and-cries-a-lot-and-screams-at-the-epic-plot-twists-and-sometimes-howls-because-the-character-development-it-a-thing-of-beauty. The fandom life is nothing if it doesn't consume you, right?Consider me 100% consumed.I thought Mortal Coil was mind-blowingly incredible but Death Bringer shoves it out of the spotlight. THIS BOOK WAS SO INTENSE. and the mixture of humour and less-action-y moments was so so perfectly mixed. Although "less action-y moments?" HA. There's only a handful of scenes that start out as "Oh, Valkyrie is actually going to have a restful night and possibly some ice cream, yay! She deserves this!" and then BOOM. Something awful will happen at the end of the chapter -- like Val nearly dying.Although, that is one thing I love a LOT about this series. The main characters are so not above getting hurt. They get HURT SO BAD. Possibly killed and resurrected. It's that kind of book. But you never know if they'll come back okay. HELLO, LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT TANNITH. (Let me cry, but Tannith wasn't even IN this book. Although, I guess, real-Tannith is basically dead and now Remnent-Tannith is on the loose. Boo. But yes, not in the book.) Add in the most INCREDIBLE AND MIND BLOWING PLOT TWIST. It was the kind of twist that I seriously sat there and pouted. And then I stormed off and abandoned this stupid book. THEN I CAME BACK ADN BINGE READ THE LAST 300-PAGES BECAUSE HOLY MACARONI I LOVE THE WRITING AND THE STORY AND THE CHARACTERS. (view spoiler)[I cannot believe Skulduggery is Lord Vile!!! Okay. I can. I know he told Val very clearly that his past is awful...but I guess I'd fallen into the "aww, but he'll just have a tragic backstory!" when, in fact, he's like a mass murderer. #awkward But woah. That one just knocked my skull off. (hide spoiler)]Ohh, let's talk characters, yes?- Skulduggery: Hilarious as ALWAYS of course. Every time he opens his mouth, he's just a little bit more silly and unhinged and so dry you could use his wit as sandpaper. It's wonderful. I LURVE IT. I do feel like he's losing a grip on his sanity though, and this scares me. - Valkyrie: I still struggle to spell her name, but she is without doubt one of my FAVOURITE heroines ever. She's so so awesome! She kicks butt, she has insane powers, she's got inner demons that, um, would like to murder the world. ohhh, AND she makes mistakes. She has some seriously DUMB mistakes that makes me want to slap and shake her. But it does make her more human and relatable...and 16. And she's hilarious. -Fletcher: Well I love Fletcher. I thought he was annoying and dumb at first, but NO. He's incredible. He's matured a LOT since we met him, and...gah. I just really love him. I guess I don't ship him with Val so much anymore, but I really hope he finds friends and things. (view spoiler)[I HATED the love-triangle in her. I think it was cliche and stupid...made double worse since Valkyrie KNEW it was so stupid. But Fletcher was so adorable and nice and wonderful and I can't believe she treated him like that. It did make me like Val less, tbh. (hide spoiler)]-Celaen: Okay, don't panic: the love-triangle is a teeny tiny part. It's not even a big deal. It gets like 2 chapters in the 600-page book. SO. I do think it's there purely to be a mockery of Twilight. And I kiiiinda hate that. I'm not a Twilight-fan, but I don't like it when books ridicule other authors/books, okay? It's not nice. So I really don't like Cealean and however you spell his name.- Melencholia: Who has a villainous name so dum dum daaaaaa, you can GUESS she sucks in this book!! YAY. I do like her character development, though, because psychopath is always intriguing. (not.)-Alice: AFJDAKLFDJSLFASd VALKYRIE'S BABY SISTER IS NAMED ALICE AND AFJKDLAFDSAFSDJL. IF ANYTHING HAPPENS TO ALICE I WILL PUNCH SOMEONE.- Wreath:...should be slapped.- China:....let's slap her too, yes? (view spoiler)[Since she helped murder Skulduggery's family?! ZOMG. WHAT EVEN CHINA. YOU ARE SO MEAN. I TRUSTED YOU. (hide spoiler)]-Craven: ...well, we all knew HE wasn't going to end well. - Nye: I'm kinda annoyed that he's being used like the next Kenspeckle...but Nye is a) not a human, b) not sane, c) an it. There is so much wrong with Nye. Plus, you know, that whole thing where he tried to dissect/murder Valkyrie last book. I kinda hate him and I MISS KENSPECKLE SO BAD.-Scapegrace: OMG I LOVE SCAPEGRACE. He's such a loser. He's so dumb and bad and hilarious and he just SUCKS at being evil. I ship him and Thrasher, btw....aaaand, there are a million characters, so, these are ones I remember, like, um, NOW. I do still get a bit messed up with the characters. I always mess up Wreath and Ghastly WHICH IS DUMB BUT I CAN'T STOP. I'm kind of glad some characters (like Tannith and omg, I've forgotten the American's name..HIM) weren't in, because there was SO SO much to keep a track of. But I still love these characters and I'm so enjoying their journeys and development. I JUST HAVE A LOT OF FEELS. Ohhh, and I HATE how this book ended. That last chapter hurt. me. bad. It makes book 7 be soooo dangerous for Val...on a whole new level. *cries and collapses*Basically, THIS IS AN INSANELY GOOD SERIES. It's like right up there with...with ANY series I read an love, and it absolutely excites me to the core that there's so many books. (I may or may not have just gone and reserved the next THREE from my library. Um, this is the girl who never reads series, okay?! So we know I'm pretty badly addicted.) It's magical and dark and BLOODY and perfect. And hilarious. Did I mention how darn funny it is??!! Okay, okay, lemme prove it.NOTABLE QUOTES OF AWESOME:[Skulduggery] "We know how it goes. He says something that annoys you, you get angry, all of a sudden he's lying dead and you're wondering where did the time go.""Dude, I'm sixteen.""I love you.""That doesn't make me any older."Skulduggery came back out, shutting the door behind him. "I'm not very good at being pretentious. It's one of my few flaws.""I don't need to be kept safe all the bloody time.""I see," Skulduggery said. "Well, you make a very good point and I can't argue with your logic. Except I'm not trying to protect you. If I try to open the door and I fail, then I'm going to need someone else to do it once they've killed me. You see?""Oh," said Valkyrie. "Oh right.""Now if I fail, the odds are that you'll fail too. And if they can kill me, they can most certainly kill you, in an undoubtedly horrible manner. But by then I'll be past caring.""So...you really aren't trying to protect me.""Not even remotely," he said warmly."I can't believe you dropped me.""Neither could the people around us. Some crazy woman stormed up and roared at me for five minutes about how I shouldn't be putting my child in danger.""That was me," Valkyrie's mum muttered. "I don't like our chances.""What are our chances?""We don't have any," Skulduggery admitted."I'm not going to just stand by and do nothing," she said through gritted teeth."You can, as I said, cheer my name, if you want."Valkyrie hesitated, then picked up Scapegrace's head. She'd never liked him. The first time she'd met him, he'd tried to throw her off a building. Time and time again, he'd tried to kill her, until his failures actually started to endear him to her. She realised she had begun to view him as a dumb little puppy who would always turn up, sooner or later, to chew on her sock or poo in her shoe. She was going to miss him.(That ^^^ is exactly how I feel about Scapegrace. :')"But look on the bright side. Nobody died."Valkyrie frowned. "Lots of people died.""But nobody you like."

  2. So I bought this book on September 3rd when I went to Derek Landy s book signing I had a brilliant time talking to him he is such a nice person So when I came home eager to start this book, I was definitely not disappointed Melancholia St Clair, an average Necromancer, who has been announced as The Death Bringer, brings shock to the Necromancers, especially Solomon Wreath as he had thought that Valkyrie Cain was the one The Death Bringer would ve been the person to join life and death together b [...]

  3. Oh my God I just finished this book and it is one of the best in the series, right next to Dark Days.I finished it in 5 days, I could not put it down Valkyrie has grown up so much And we discover some SERIOUS stuff about Skulduggery s past Both of them are ambidextrous mages so far, at least and both of them are were potential Death Bringers Both of them have a dark alter ego, they even tried to kill each other But they re best friends, and neither of them can bear to see the other die.Ships hav [...]

  4. 2.5 stars.Val, Val, Val I liked you What happened Hanging out with Caelan, cheating on Fletcher, dumping Fletcher, dumping Caelan ornd of and then coming back around to Fletcher, relying on his awesomeness and love for you to save your sorry bitchy self, along with a multitude of head banging stupid decisions and treating everyone horribly I desperately wanted Tanith to show up and slap her Or Skulduggery to tell her off Or Fletcher to realize that s he much too good for her.Or something, anythi [...]

  5. Another excellent addition to the series This one is a bit of a turning point, propelling the series to a bit of a darker place The character development blows me away First read 2013Second read July 2014

  6. Skulduggery 6 represents a return to form for Landy, mainly because he shakes things up quite a bit Tanith and Sanguine are no shows, other characters are bogged down in bureaucracy and there are quite a number of surprising revelations. At the end of the previous volume I thought I had worked out quite a bit of what was going to happen next none of it played out the way I expected, though some of it still mighte the Reflection subplot still hasn t paid offwhich is getting a little irritatingI al [...]

  8. I have spent some time agonising over how to write this review without giving away any spoilers, and the only thing I can think of is to make it shorter than most of my reviews There is just so much happening in this book that it is nigh impossible to say much at all about the story without giving something away that may spoil the book for the few die hard fans out there who have not yet read it I will do my utmost however, although if you have not yet read Mortal Coil, the fifth book in the ser [...]

  9. I borrowed the first Skulduggery book a few years back, when i was on my fishing trip to Ireland My family have this house in Donegal, which has been passed down the family When i started reading it of course, i realised that it was actually SET in Ireland, how friggin awesome. So there i was in Ireland, reading Skulduggery Pleasant, as you do And i thought it was pretty snazzy. Then i read playing with fire Meh Faceless ones Kinda good Dark Days amazing Mortal Coil Wow.And then i saw Death Bringe [...]

  10. A decent edition to the series, even darker and dangers than before, but not one of my faves Was disappointed that not much about the situation with Tanith was really dealt with. While I enjoyed the book well enough overall, there were a few issues For one, the pacing was off and definitely dragged in places and some of the fight scenes, especially the last one ye gods The snark and humor is still good when Valkyrie and Skulduggery are bantering, but seemed sadly lacking any other time. But my ma [...]

  11. I forgot how intense those last 70 or so pages were Like holy heck, I cringed so much and nearly had to stop reading IT WAS GREAT I honestly think that the best thing about this series is that there are practically never any low points Like sure, some most characters have their lows, but the series itself never has a dull moment It just goes And goes and goes and goes Do ya get me This series will be the absolute death of me, but it ll be a good death.

  12. On the September 1st, at the end of school, I had Mum take me straight to the bookstore, to buy a copy I had been waiting for Deathbringer for so long, and when I finally found it, I was ecstatic I stayed up into the early hours of the morning finishing it, and all I can say is Wow.So in the beginning of the book, I actually found myself getting extremely annoyed with Valkyrie She was running off the rails, she didn t have Tanith or Ghastly to rein her in She was completely oblivious to what she [...]

  13. I feel exactly the same way about this 6th instalment than I have about the last 3 I could almost write the exact same review as I did for Mortal coil book show 81 because nothing has changed I still love these books They are definitely flawed and seem to be a bit slack on proof reading of late but they are just so entertaining Like the last book, Landy s sarcastic humour that he originally planted in Skulduggery s character has seeped through to almost all the characters It starts to annoy me a [...]

  14. Secreeettttssss, so many secrets I really teared up at times during this book We re finally told what Skulduggery did, we finally see the terrible toll Darquesse is taking on Valkyrie, we finally see and understand a view spoiler lot hide spoiler of the characters pasts and understand them better And Fletcher and Valkyrie DARN IT, Valkyrie, don t mess with the poor boy s feelings And the part that made me tear up really badly Thiiiissss No, said Valkyrie What do we do now We re partners You re m [...]

  15. OMW LIKE THIS WAS AMAZING I WAS IN Tears with what happened to Val and Fletc okay i am not gonna ruin the suspense for the future readers i am just gonna say its highly recommendable and its amazing one of its kind welll xcept the series itself ofcourse okay thats it cuz i mite blabber out the whole series

  16. THEMES METAPHORS TOTALLY LEGIT RESPONSES TO ADVANCES FROM CREEPY VAMPIRES DRAMA BADASSERY And a bit of sass. Also a really gross scene involving an eyeball.

  17. Aaaaah, Derek, Derek, Derek Where do I start You hate Twilight We get it But was that really necessary I believe not This book would otherwise deserve full 5 stars but the Calean thing was just way too obvious for my taste And it s not that I like Twilight whichI kind of do, but that s beside the point , it s just the way it s all turned around While Derek Landy is usually great at satire and parody, this was a thinly veiled attempt I m not even sure there was one , which is why I m going with f [...]

  18. This was nearly the best book so far, following up on the same expanded interesting themes and threats and characters that mortal coil gave us However the 50 100 pages spent wondering through the caves never a good location in these books with one long running fight and chase which was of very little consequence really let the side down However, I love Kenny as a new edition and think many of the side characters such as Fletcher, Wreath and even Clarabelle have really had a chance to come into t [...]

  19. Wow These books That one did strike me as being a bit slower in the early part Of course, I would read Skulduggery Valkyrie banter for literal chapters and not care if absolutely nothing happened, but there s also everyone else s POV, too I think it also didn t help that I knew a couple of the big things before they happened I wish I had the experience of discovering those things again for the first time However, the book really picked up in the later section, and I am gutted that I have to wait [...]

  20. Another enjoyable read There was some great action in this book 6 and some big things happening There was some teenage romance that I could have done without, but this is geared for teenagers so I will look past that on my rating Flew through this book for how long it is For being book 6 in this series it still held my interest and had me excited to read it.

  21. The final fight just.wow I will write some coherent thoughts on this when I get past my current state of pure love and amazement As for now, still out of reach.
